Rwanda Travel Tips

Rwanda is popularly known as the “land of thousand hills” and it is not tough to guess what it would be like to plan a holiday package to the country. With beautiful beaches and plateaus jutting out, it is a honeymoon with nature. With a huge historical background, Rwanda is an excitement for culturally bent people. Eco tourism is also one of the major attractions to this country.

Attractions:

  1. Gorilla tracking: Virunga Park, as mentioned on our travel package itinerary, is known for its unique gorillas. Tracking them is difficult because the hills are not easily accessible, covered in dense vegetation along steep slopes. Since tourists have been coming for decades the gorillas are habituated to them and one can get a close view of up to 5 metres distance.

            Basic rules:

    • One has to be more than 15 years old.
    • One should not be suffering from any sickness and infectious illness
    • Flash photography is not allowed
    • Trekkers must carry woolen clothes for protection against the cold temperature in the mountain
    • Eating or drinking is prohibited in front of the gorillas
    • Touching the gorillas is also forbidden
  1. Land of a Thousand Hills: Volcanic Mountains in the northwest continue downwards as rugged hills in the south east. The eastern slopes are lower .Such undulating natural landscape is an amazing site to behold.
  2. Lake Kivu, Nyungwe forest and the Ruzizi river valley are the other natural features that tourists must visit on their vacation packages. The Ruzizi valley is a part of the Great Rift Valley

Climate: It has a tropical highland type of climate with a wide temperature range for the country. The diurnal temperature stands at an average of 30°. The highlands are comparatively cooler. Between the middle of March and May heavy rainfall is experienced followed by a dry spell lasting till the middle of October .Rains follow till December and then again there is a dry season

Most suitable time for visiting: Given its four seasons it is suggested that the dry periods are considered for traveling to prevent unnecessary hassles that may occur in the wet seasons. The terrain is also slippery during the rains. However, you are entitled to enjoy our special discount vacation packages round the year.

Landing and taking off: The international airport is located at Kigali. Rwanda’s air transport service is taken care of by Rwandair Express. The formalities of flights and landing are generally taken care of by our inclusive vacation package experts.

Internal Transportation: Most of the country is connected through paved roads linking major cities. The most popular form of public transport here is the share taxi. There are coaches for traveling to adjacent countries. An international driving permit is necessary for driving within the country.

Communication: Cell phone service providers MTN and Terracom have a nation wide coverage and their SIM cards are available all throughout .Rwandatel/Terracom and MTN also provide internet connection. An expensive Wireless broad band service called WIMAX is also provided by the two service providers in the capital city.

Currency: Rwanda Franc (RWF) is the name of the locally accepted currency.

Time: Given its location to the east of the Greenwich meridian it is 2 hours ahead of the GMT.

Health Information: It is suggested that basic medical provisions are carried by the travelers since medical supplies and doctors are scarce.
